Italy by Train: A Classic Itinerary

Why train travel works so well in Italy
Italy’s rail system makes it easy to experience multiple cities without the hassle of driving. Trains are fast, comfortable, and place you directly in city centers.
For a classic itinerary, we recommend Rome → Florence → Venice, with a slower pace in each city rather than rushing through many stops.
Rome: start with the essentials
Rome deserves at least three days. We plan a balanced mix of iconic sites and quieter moments — a private Vatican tour, a guided walk in Trastevere, and time for slow dinners.
We also schedule a lighter day in the middle to reset. It keeps the experience enjoyable rather than exhausting.
Florence: art, food, and slow afternoons
Florence is best enjoyed at a slower pace. We suggest two to three days with a mix of museum time, market visits, and a day trip to the Tuscan countryside.
A private wine tour or cooking class gives the trip a personal touch and becomes a memorable highlight.
Venice: finish with romance
Venice is ideal for a two-night stay. We recommend a gondola ride at sunset, a quiet morning exploring the smaller canals, and a visit to Murano or Burano if time allows.
Ending in Venice keeps the trip romantic and relaxed, with minimal travel stress.
Concierge tip
We arrange premium rail seating and hotel transfers so the journey feels seamless. The difference in comfort is worth it, especially on multi-city trips.
